The building materials trade Canal Gmbh & Co. KG changes its main location from Tschidererweg  into the new Padre-Kino-Straße. The company Canal & Co sees itself as a hub between industry, trade and builders and would like to serve its customers even faster and more efficiently with the new location.

On a floor space of around 8,800 m², the new building is divided into two clearly structured buildings with a built-in cubature of around 43,000 m². One building consists of a hardware store with the associated office space and an underground car park for 44 cars. The second building consists of an elongated warehouse with hot and cold storage and a slightly raised dispatch area.  Both parts of the building are connected by a spacious roof. In this way, the entire loading and unloading area can be reached.

DIY MARKET

Accessed via the two-storey, covered entrance area, one enters an oversized air space. This free space is supplied with natural daylight via openings in the roof.  Accompanying the 4-storey wall is the open access staircase. This continuous air space is both a connecting and separating element in terms of function and design. Both customers and employees use these stairs to switch between the 3 office floors and two specialist store floors. However, it also ensures that the workstations cannot be reached in an uncontrolled manner. Targeted window openings allow visual contact in both directions. The office spaces are individually tailored to user needs and are barrier-free. Ribbon windows are used on the facade in the office area, whereby in combination with the sun protection, frames are installed flush with the plaster level. In the north, a two-story glazing provides an unobstructed view of the building supplies store.

STORAGE HALL

The warehouse is made of a combination of in-situ concrete and prefabricated parts. Insulated sandwich panels are used to match the plaster surfaces in terms of color and structure. In close cooperation with lighting planning, the open spaces are put in the right light using individual pots and line lights.
