6020 INNSBRUCK

ROECK ARCHITECTS

The project by ROECK Architects in Innsbruck was chosen as the winning project in an invited competition. The special school will be built on the site of the existing elementary school. In addition to the rooms for the special needs school, the room plan also includes areas for shared use with the elementary school. The new building resulted from a competition and was arranged parallel to the existing building by the architects. This structure was designed with one hip in mind, with the classes facing south-west.

The northern part, which protrudes in front of the old building, forms the end of the newly designed forecourt. From here you can reach a platform via a few steps or a ramp, which opens up the two schools. On the one hand, the connecting bridge on the upper floor forms the roof over the entrance areas and, on the other hand, makes both schools architecturally barrier-free. The sunken courtyard in between serves as a break space.
